CYSCA yachts Concubine and Secret Mens Business are locked in a tight battle for 3rd following Day 4 of Hamilton Island Race Week. With just two days of racing left only 3 points separate SMB (3rd, 20 points) and Concubine (5th, 23 points), with Queenslanders Alive hanging around the spoil the party.
Leading the charge are SMB rivals Beau Geste and Ichi Ban, who hold a firm grasp on the top two placings on 6 and 12 points respectively. The professionally crewed TP52 Beau Geste has won 4 of 5 races so far, with their worst performance slipping only to 2nd.
The race is on now for the final podium position in the Australian Yachting Championships. SMB will be looking to equal their 3rd placing last year while Concubine seeks their first major podium against some highly talented and resourceful programs.
Working hard to deny SA of a podium finish are Queenslanders ‘Alive’ (ex- Black Jack), who snuck ahead of SMB and Concubine in Race 6 with a hard-fought 2nd. Also hot on the heels is fellow CYCSA member Seb Bohm on The Goat (NSW) sitting 8 points behind 3rd.
Concubine sits 3rd overall, 2 points ahead of 4th, in the ORCi category which is dcontrolled by Alive and Ichi Ban.
Concubine got off to a good start to the regatta notching up back-to-back 3rds after 2 races, with SMB close behind in 4th before light winds marred havoc with the schedule, forcing the Race Committee to sail three races on Day 4. Light breezes on Day 4 hurt Concubine who put up a 4th, 6th and 7th while SMB maintained some consistency and improved to a regatta best 3rd to overtake their fellow South Aussies.
Only two days remain in the regatta, with a Windward-Leeward in store for today followed by a short around the islands race before finishing off with another around the islands race on Saturday.
