The Port River Marine and Combined Winter Series’ came to a slow conclusion on Sunday, with a light nor-easter capping off a delightful winter series.
Scores were tight heading into the final race, adding extra pressure to a tricky day that required maximum concentration.
A 4th place in Race 6 was just enough for That’s Life to hold off White Knight in Division 1 PHS, while in Division 2 a hat-trick of bullets sealed the deal for From Russia With Love who worked hard to improve performance throughout the series. Second place in Division 2 came down to count-back between 3 boats, with Sea Snake II taking second overall with a 3rd in Race 6.
An AMS win was never in doubt for White Knight who, other than a 4th which was later dropped, won every race. Alliance found consistency in second to fall 5 points behind White Knight. Division 2 AMS went right down to the wire between School’s Out and Julia, with School’s Out winning the deciding Race 6 and their second win on the trot to edge out a series win.
No Eye Deer raised the Hans Neumann Cup for the CYCSA as winners of combined Division 2 PHS, which was shared with Outrageous of Division 1 who built a 2-point buffer over 2nd place Alliance in Race 6.
White Knight and School’s Out raised the combined AMS trophies, comprehensively defeating their competitors from RSAYS for the honour.
Weather for the winter season was largely favourable, with one abandonment due to light winds. Barring that, we had mostly sunny weather and light to moderate breezes that are synonymous with pleasant winter sailing.
We thank Port River Marine Services for their support of the Winter Series and the CYCSA Racing Association.
